Despite warnings of poor ice conditions, some participants of the 52nd annual Brice Prairie Conservation Association’s ice fishing tournament chose to drive on Lake Onalaska February 4.
Reports of three vehicles: a tow truck, an SUV and an ATV trailer went through the ice Saturday.
According to Weather Underground, a website dedicated to providing weather history, the temperatures during the week peaked upper 40′s with Saturday’s temperatures reaching 41*
“I thought what kind of person drove a truck out here on a 44* day” said Marsha Reed who saw one of the trucks sitting in the ice. “I always knew Chevy runs deep. Looks like a little too deep this time.”
The incidents have been refereed to the Department of Natural Resources for further investigation.
