I would never have believed it if I wasn’t the one doing it, but …. yes, there is open water steelheading happening in Wisconsin right now! I put in a full day yesterday on the Root River and picked up 5 beautiful, chrome steelhead. The river is full of fish and wide open. I saw well over a dozen steelhead being caught. Fishing brown trout spawn in an orange sack seemed to do the trick for me.
If you’ve got some time and can get down there … now is the time to go before things possibly freeze up again this weekend.
